Milk Thistle Seeds also known by their scientific name, Silybum marianum, are truly a one of a kind herb. Milk Thistle Seed is world renowned for centuries because of a natural compound called silymarin found in it.

Silybum marianum or Milk Thistle Seeds are native to the Mediterranean region and grow wild throughout the countryside's of Europe, North America and Australia.

Milk Thistle Seeds Powder contains a flavonoid complex known as silymarin, which is the component responsible for all of the herb's purported medical benefits.

Directions:
Organic Milk Thistle Seed Whole
Prepare as a tea - Pour 8 oz of boiling water (212 deg F) over 1-2 tsp. of herb. Cover and steep 5-10 minutes, strain, and serve.

I just purchased this product for the first time. It is fresh and I have only used it a couple of times. I have not had enough time to evaluate this properly but I can say that like all products I purchase from Starwest the quality was top knotch!

My daughter has ordered this on my behalf in the past. We have used this as a liver support supplement for my cocker spaniel since an episode of acute liver failure about 3 years ago (suspect poisoning of some sort.) The powder is convenient to add to her meals and she has had no further problems since her recovery. It is also much more reasonably priced than the pills recommended by the vet.

I have a pug with a genetically sucky liver. I also work a lot with dogs who have IMHA (immune-mediated hemolytic anemia) who have to take all sorts of heinous immune-suppressors. The ground powder is very consistent -- if you ever open capsules from those lovely high-cost bottles of herbs from your local health store you will see most of them contain little twigs and stones and the powder isn't at all consistent in color or texture. StarWest AWAYS is. I take it myself as well. StarWest is easy to find, it's great quality and so much cheaper than the yucky stuff in capsules from most stores.

My mouth and my liver just can't get enough. I love the crunch and the flavor! I put it on Everything or eat it ground up raw.

I use Milk Thistle seed powder for my geriatric pony with Cushings disease. The disease is progressive and even with medication harms and ultimately shuts down organs over time. His liver was the first organ to begin breaking down. Milk Thistle seed is the only supplement or medication that my vet or I have found to support and heal my pony ' s liver. We have currently (and given the nature of his disease probably only temporarily) reversed his liver failure with milk thistle seed. I have only just started purchasing from this site but have not noticed any quality differences between the milk thistle here and what I purchased previously.

Comes in a resealable zip lock bag. Nice fine powder just like the picture. I use this for my dog who has liver problems. Denamarin was 1.30 a pill and my dog hated it. I give her 1/2 teaspoon of this milk thistle mixed in with her food for her 25# weight. She doesn't even know it is there. Has taken her 500 liver down to the 300's. And it is still going down. This is a wonderful product. Stays fresh in the bag it comes in for a long time. Maybe this isn't for pets, but I love my dog and it is helping wonderfully. Plus I have tasted it, not bad tasting at all.

These are just raw milk thistle seeds (whole and powdered), so the silymarin content will vary from lot to lot. On average, milk thistle seeds contain about 4-6% silymarin.
