Lavender Tea Uses

Lavender tea is good for promoting a sense of calm, which can be an amazing way to wind down from a busy day or a perfect treat to soothe the system in the summer heat. Adding a splash of lavender tea to your favorite summer cocktails, mocktails and fruity desserts can also bring a unique and balancing flavor.

Which Lavender for Tea?

Before we dive into the recipes, you may be wondering which lavender variety to buy. Super grade lavender tends to be best for culinary and beverage purposes, with its citrus-like taste, hints of sweetness and rosemary, and strong floral flavor. It is bright and subtly peppery. French lavender is often super grade, while Bulgarian lavender is often extra grade (which is better for body care).

Lavender Summer Drink Recipes

#1 Lavender Tea

½ teaspoon lavender flowers super organic

½ teaspoon dried peppermint or rose petals (optional)

12 ounces hot water

1 teaspoon local honey

Instructions

Steep dried lavender in hot water for 10-15 minutes, covered. Strain. Stir in honey. Sip slowly and enjoy as you wind down in the afternoon or evening.

#2 Lavender Tea with Milk

1 teaspoon lavender flowers super organic

12 ounces hot water

1 teaspoon local honey (or your sweetener of choice)

A splash of half and half (or non dairy alternative)

Instructions

Steep dried lavender in hot water for 10-15 minutes, covered. Strain. Stir in sweetener and milk.

#3 Lavender Lemonade

2 cups boiled water

2 cups cool water

3 tablespoons lavender flowers super organic

1 tsp butterflypea flowers or beet root powder (option for natural purple color)

½ cup organic granulated sugar

¼ cup maple syrup

1 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice, 5-6 lemons

Lemon slices optional, for garnish

Instructions

  • Combine lavender, butterflypea or beet root powder (optional), sugar and maple syrup in a medium bowl. Pour 2 cups of boiling water on top. Cover and let sit for at least 30 minutes (or up to several hours). Then, strain.
  • Combine strained syrup, cool water and lemon juice.
  • Serve over ice. Garnish with a slice of lemon and enjoy!

#4 Lavender Ginger Mint Limeade

1 cup hot water

3 cups cool water

1-2 tsp lavender flowers super organic

2 limes, juiced

1 cup fresh mint

3 tablespoons ginger root, grated

¼ cup coconut sugar

Instructions

  • Steep 1 tbsp dried lavender in 1 cup just-boiled water for 10-20 minutes. Strain.
  • In a blender, combine strained lavender tea, lime juice, fresh mint, grated ginger, and coconut sugar, plus 1 cup of cool water. Blend until smooth.
  • Strain through a fine mesh sieve.
  • Add in the remaining two cups of water.
  • Chill for 30 minutes and then serve. Garnish with fresh mint leaves.

#5 Lavender Latte

1-2 teaspoon lavender flowers super organic

1 cup water

1 cup coconut milk

1 tablespoon coconut sugar or jaggery

¼ tsp cardamom powder

1 tablespoon raw cacao (or a shot of espresso)

Instructions

In a small saucepan combine lavender, milk, and water. Bring to a boil and simmer, partially covered, for 5 minutes. Turn off heat and let the lavender steep for 5 more minutes. Strain. Add coconut sugar, cardamom and cacao (optional). Enjoy!

#6 Lavender Matcha

1 teaspoon lavender flowers super organic

4-6 ounces hot water

6-8 ounces milk of your choice (or cool water)

1 tsp matcha powder

½ teaspoon maple syrup

Instructions

Steep dried lavender in hot water for 10-15 minutes, covered. Strain. Combine all ingredients in a 12 ounce jar with a lid and shake for 30-60 seconds. Add ice, if desired, and enjoy.

#7 Organic Lavender Simple Syrup for Mocktails

1 cup water

1 cup raw sugar

½ cup lavender flowers super organic

2-3 cardamom pods (optional)

Pinch of salt

Splash of vanilla

Instructions

  • Combine sugar, lavender, and cardamom pods (optional) in a medium size bowl.
  • Pour in 1 cup of boiling water and whisk until dissolved.
  • Add salt and vanilla.
  • Cover and let it steep overnight.
  • Strain in the morning.
  • Store in a lidded glass jar in the refrigerator for up to a month.
