For more than a decade, sea moss has been commonly used to create a jelly-like texture in vegan desserts. In the last few years, you’ve likely also begun seeing it in natural skin care products, organic cosmetics and even drinks, all touting health promoting and beauty enhancing properties. You may have seen Kim Kardashian sipping sea moss on her TV show, or noticed that Micheal B. Jordan just launched a sea moss-centered beverage line called MOSS that is said to “harnesses the potency of sea moss and blends it with botanical extracts to awaken the senses.” If you happen to find yourself at the infamous Erehwon in Los Angeles, you will notice a slew of sea moss products, from jars of sea moss gel in every color of the rainbow to lightly sweetened gummies! All that to be said, sea moss is really having a moment.

Now, rather than spending five dollars on a ready-made sea moss elixir or twenty dollars on an Erehwon smoothie, what if you could make your own delicious drinks at home …for a fraction of the cost? It all starts with ordering high-quality organic Sea Moss from a company that you can trust.

Sea Moss Drink Benefits

Nutrient-Rich

Sea moss, also known as Irish moss or red algae, is a vegan, gluten-free source of many vitamins and minerals (most notably Vitamin B2, Vitamin A, iodine, potassium calcium, magnesium, and zinc). Algaes, like sea moss, tend to have higher mineral content than land-based plants due to their excellent bio absorption and bioaccumulation skills.

May Boost Immune System

Rich in Vitamin C, sea moss has the potential to support seasonal wellness.

May Enhances Digestive Health

With its smooth and slippery texture, sea moss may soothe the digestive tract, promoting a calm and cool digestive experience.

May Promotes Healthy Skin

High in vegan collagen, sea moss has the potential to support skin elasticity and may even help reduce skin reactions.

May Boost Energy Levels

Sea Moss is robust in plant-based iron, which supports the transportation of oxygen throughout the body and may help counter fatigue.

Sea Moss Gel

Unlike most herbal teas, in which the dried plant matter can easily be steeped in hot water to create a tea, sea moss must first be made into a gel. This gel can easily be stored in the refrigerator and dissolved into hot tea or blended into other beverages.

How to Make Sea Moss Gel:
  1. Rinse Starwest Organic Dried Sea Moss: To remove naturally occurring unwanted particles, rinse sea moss several times (for up to five minutes) until you have removed all the excess salt and sand. The odor should begin to become less potent during this process. After rinsing, make sure to strain the water thoroughly.
  2. Soak in Pure Filtered Water Overnight: Place the sea moss in a bowl with plenty of water. Allow it to soak for 4-12 hours.
  3. Blend to Create a Gel: After soaking, strain and rinse a few more times. In a blender, combine your sea moss with about twice as much filtered water, adding more as needed to reach desired consistency.
  4. Store in the Refrigerator for up to 1 Month: To preserve freshness, store your sea moss gel in a clean glass jar in the fridge.
